Approaching the Glacier’s Edge

Inspired by the sensations of joy and trepidation when walking back up to the tongue of Sólheimajökull in 2025, my first return in five years. This is the unique outlet for Mýrdalsjökull, the fourth largest glacier in Iceland. In my notes, I wrote, the warmth of the sun heightened the rich colours observed upon the topography surrounding the glacier’s edge, highlighting the stunning forms of the aged ice, layers of volcanic ash and its profound beauty.
